Villa Jacaranda, Tres Cales, L'Ametlla de Mar, Costa Dorada, Spain.

L'Ametlla De Mar is a working fishing village and trawlers can be seen coming into dock in the harbour on a daily basis with their haul. Small fish markets are laid out each day and families of the fisherman sell a portion of the days catch to the locals and tourists. L'Ametlla has it's own beach and life guard service. The sheltered bay is great for swimming and snorkeling; the beach makes a great sun trap for those sun worshippers among us.

A short walk from the beach is the bustling town centre where there are many traditional shops, a village square and an oasis of bars and restaurants providing a lovely tranquil night out.

 

 

Tres Cales and L'Ametlla de Mar.

One of the greatest attractions of Les Tres Cales has to be its secluded, uncrowded Mediterranean beaches after which it takes its name. Les Tres Cales translates as "The Three Coves" and they are truly beautiful. Their fine golden sands and clean shallow waters continue to captivate holiday makers who visit year after year.  

Les Tres Cales is a quiet residential area set behind stone walls and amidst pine groves. There are no hotels or large buildings. A few bars a restaurant, supermarket and grocers are located at the entrance to the complex, a ten minute walk from Villa Jacaranda. There is also a childrens' play park within a short walk.

We'd recommend that anyone visiting Villa Jacaranda to visit the fish market at L'Ametlla, and purchase some fresh fish for the Bar-B-Q back at the villa. If you don' t fancy cooking your own then there's a wide selection of specialist fish restaurants around the harbour and town. Being a fishing village, seafood is the specialty of L Ametlla de Mar. Typical dishes include the arrossejat or rice steamed in fish stock, the fideauada or noodles in fish stock, and shellfish zarzuela, which is a combination of different seafood cooking in a special sauce. Special local flavorings are added to the dishes to give them a distinct and enticing taste.
