Salou and Sitges on the Costa Dorada of Spain.

Salou is a family seaside holiday resort – modern, well designed and with mile after mile of golden sand. You’ll find plenty to do with its exciting range of watersports. A tree-lined promenade is fronted by shops, cafes and restaurants. Salou is packed with lively night-time bars and discos. Make your way here when dusk falls to watch the town’s illuminated fountain spring to life, a sign that the evening revelries are about to begin. Salou is home to the world famous Universal Mediteranea with two thrilling parks. Salou is fairly spread out and merges with the neighbouring resorts of La Pineda to the east and Cambrils to the west, all of have wonderful clean sandy beaches and secluded rocky coves. The beaches of Salou are without doubt the resort's main attraction with wide stretches of golden and smaller beaches sheltered by pine trees and pretty inlets and coves.

Few places along Catalonia's southern coast are as emblematic as Sitges, a town that combines natural beauty, historical sites, cultural events and a notorious nightlife better than most. It regularly grabs the top spots on must-see lists and has therefore been chosen to host such illustrious events as the Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, which takes place in the fall. It comes as no surprise that both celebrities and mere mortals flock to this pretty coastal town as it sports a picturesque appearance and an atmosphere that blends traditional charm with a cosmopolitan attitude.

Sitges is also a lovely resort for beach lovers and sun-worshippers. The beaches in the city and towards the eastern end, such as Aiguadolç and Els Balomins, are the more relaxing. San Sebastiá, Fragata and the Beach of the Boats are excellent for families as the water is quite shallow and safe for children. The Platja de la Ribera on the west is popular the younger holiday-maker. If you enjoy a walk head south towards Vilanova i la Geltru, the next town on the coast. The walk takes about an hour and a half and takes you to beaches like the nudist Platja del Muerto and plenty of small coves. If you don't want to walk take the shuttle bus that operates between the cathedral and the golf course.
